The Parts Alliance captivated and engaged staff across its nationwide network of more than 170 branches and support centres with its first Virtual Conference in June.
The conference, run on events platform vFairs, gave staff at every level the chance to explore and interact with a virtual venue over the course of two ‘live’ days on 29 and 30 June.
It contained two core elements: an auditorium featuring keynote speeches from members of the Senior Management Team at The Parts Alliance and suppliers, and an exhibition area featuring booths from the company’s support service teams and supplier partners.
Replicating the experience of a live event, attendees could explore the supplier and support services exhibition halls at their leisure, while keynote speeches were released at set times over the course of the two days.
Exhibition booths were virtually manned by representatives from the relevant supplier or support team, offering staff the chance to interact in real-time through Q&As, chat forums and private messaging.
The Parts Alliance CFO Sally Dowling said: “The virtual conference proved to be a fantastic opportunity for us to increase the sense of community, shared understanding and engagement across our teams.
“Our experience during the pandemic forced us to adapt to new ways of working and staying connected, and this event was an excellent reflection of the success we’ve found in using innovative technological solutions to bring us closer together this last year-and-a-half.
“We approached this virtual conference with the same vigour, investment and commitment to quality that we would have done with an in-person event, which enabled us to deliver a fantastic online experience for our staff.”
The event was supported by 24 supplier partners, each of which hosted an exhibition booth and many of which delivered keynote speeches or videos released in the virtual auditorium.
The Parts Alliance Group Commercial Director Paula Huesca de Crean said: “This was a valuable opportunity for our supplier partners to connect with our branch network on an unprecedented scale and we are incredibly grateful for their support.
“The feedback we’ve received from both our staff and supplier partners has been excellent. Our staff were hungry to explore and interact with the wealth of content available, while the impressive online system enabled us to demonstrate staff engagement for suppliers through detailed analytics.”
More than 800 staff from The Parts Alliance logged on to the event, which was accessible on any device, in any location and outside working hours. The results of a feedback survey carried out with attendees gave the event a 4.5 rating out of 5, with 95% of staff indicating they would like to see another event of its kind in the future.
Sally added: “We are constantly seeking new and effective means to engage our staff, using their feedback to guide us and inform our decisions. This event proved to be a real hit with our teams at every level and is a superb example of our commitment to making The Parts Alliance a place that people are proud to work for and eager to do business with. It provided a great opportunity for us to celebrate the successes of 2021 so far and share with the team the exciting opportunities ahead”.

The Parts Alliance have launched a new forum with the support of the IMI for independent garage owners in the automotive aftermarket
The Accelerate forum is designed for garage owners to discuss and debate the future of the industry and the impact of emerging technology such as electric vehicles (EVs).
The forum is aimed at garage owners from national garage programme Servicesure’s network of 554 members and other independent garage owners.
The group will meet quarterly to discuss and debate topics impacting the aftermarket, with guests from leading manufacturers, industry bodies and trainers in attendance to facilitate discussion, field questions and take on feedback from garage owners.
The first Accelerate forum, held on 28 April 2021, saw representatives from Yuasa Batteries, Fleet Assist, BP Pulse and Autotech Training participate in the discussion with owners from 10 independent garage owners, as well as Servicesure and senior leaders from The Parts Alliance.
The Parts Alliance Head of Garage Programmes Paul Dineen said: “It’s absolutely crucial for garage owners to understand the kind of emerging technology that will fundamentally change the automotive aftermarket in the years ahead, but it’s equally important for these experts to have a voice during the evolution of our industry.
“As EVs and their variants become more prevalent in society, our industry needs to prepare and adapt in order to ensure technicians can still operate safely and to provide independent garage owners with the opportunity to capitalise on this rapidly growing market.
Our Accelerate forums will bring together forward-thinking, passionate and knowledgeable garage owners with representatives from companies and bodies involved in emerging automotive technology in order to stimulate useful and engaging discussion.”
The group used the first Accelerate forum to discuss safety, qualifications and legislation regarding work on EVs, ADAS and Autonomous Vehicles.
With fewer than five per cent of UK technicians currently qualified to work on high voltage systems in EVs, industry training and qualifications are an essential part of this emerging market.
Also discussed was the expansion of EVs in corporate fleets and supply chains, and how this could impact servicing demand. Finally, the forum examined the implications of charging infrastructure and the equipment required to work on EVs for independent garages.

Throughout April, technicians can look forward to enjoying some delicious snacks
The Parts Alliance new promotion, ‘Too Good To Share’ will see garages receive snack bags packed with sweet goodies. Running throughout April, technicians can look forward to enjoying a selection of snacks with every brake caliper purchased from their local branch.
Inside each bag there’s chocolate bars, crisps, a packet of sweets and a soft drink – contents that will provide a timely energy boost and are ideal for consuming at break time, lunch time or simply throughout the working day.
The Parts Alliance stocks Bendix brake calipers, which are exclusively available in the UK from the distributer. The huge range covers most of the UK car parc and all units are remanufactured to OE Matching Quality.
All remanufacturing uses OE castings, with bleeder screw and rubber parts being 100% replaced. All other parts are inspected and replaced as required, with units thoroughly tested using high and low pressure, with the handbrake mechanism being tested on handbrake calipers as well. The calipers are supplied with rubber parts for easy installation, including a copper washer and grease where applicable.
The range has recently been expanded, with the introduction of Electronic Parking Brake calipers. Over 40 references are now available, covering popular VAG vehicles, BMW 5 series including. Active Hybrid, Mercedes A-Class/B-Class/CLA series/GLA series, Ford Kuga/Mondeo, Land Rover Range Rover/Range Rover Sport, Nissan Qashqai, and many Renault, Citroen, Peugeot applications.
“The Bendix range of brake calipers has been very popular with customers since being introduced a few years ago,” says Simon Moore, Head of Marketing. “The combination of OE matching quality, a wide range covering most applications and competitive pricing has been a real hit with garages.”
The Parts Alliance are also keen to point out the environmental benefits of fitting a remanufactured caliper. Being remanufactured, Bendix calipers save up to 85% of the energy consumption compared to the production of OE units.
The ‘Too Good To Share’ promotion will be running at branches of Allparts, Bromsgrove Motor Factors, BBC Superfactors, BMS Superfactors, Car Parts & Accessories, CES, GMF Motor Factors, GSF Car Parts, SAS Autoparts, SC Motor Factors, The Parts Alliance (South West) and Waterloo Motor Trade.
In addition to calipers, The Parts Alliance has a full braking programme to provide a single source for all brake related repairs. This includes an extensive range of Brembo, Delphi, Bendix and DriveTec pads and discs, along with fitting kits and sensors.

With England entering a period of new restrictions on 5th November, The Parts Alliance have confirmed that all their branches will remain open throughout the 2nd national lockdown. The nationwide distributor wanted to reassure customers that their entire network will continue to be fully operational, particularly as many workshops are experiencing an uplift in MOT’s and may have concerns about parts availability over the coming weeks following the government’s announcement. As ever staff will continue to follow an array of strict safety measures, to keep customers safe when receiving parts from their local branch.
With Covid-19 cases continuing to increase, The Parts Alliance is encouraging garages to visit the Covid-19 section of their online Support Zone, which contains useful guidance and a range of downloadable resources. These include social distancing, face covering and sanitisation best practice posters. In addition garages can purchase essential PPE and hygiene products from their nearest branch to ensure their premises remain as COVID-safe as possible.
